Bali rafting is one of the island's most popular outdoor activities, especially on the Ayung River near Ubud. Packing the right items makes the experience more comfortable and helps you focus on the scenery instead of worrying about wet clothes or slippery stairs.
Use this checklist before your Bali Rafting Adventure or Telaga Waja River Rafting trip.
What the Tour Usually Provides
Life jacket and helmet
Paddle and rafting boat
Professional river guide
Safety briefing before entering the river
Towel and shower access (Ayung River operators)
Buffet lunch (most packages)
What You Should Bring
Clothing
Quick-dry clothes: T-shirt and shorts or swimwear that you are happy to get fully wet.
Change of clothes: Dry outfit for after the shower — leave it in your transport or locker.
Underwear: Fresh set for after the trip.
Footwear
Secure sandals or water shoes: You will walk down (and back up) long staircases to reach the river. Flip-flops without straps are not ideal.
Personal Items
Waterproof pouch or dry bag: For phone, keys, and cash if you bring them to the base camp.
Reef-safe sunscreen: Apply before the trip if you have exposed skin during the briefing.
Prescription glasses strap: If you wear glasses, secure them or leave them in a locker.
Small cash: For locker rental, drinks, or photo packages at some operators.
What to Leave at the Hotel
Valuables, large cameras, and non-waterproof electronics are best left in your hotel safe. If you need photos, ask about operator GoPro rentals or waterproof phone cases on site.
Ayung River vs Telaga Waja
The Ayung River near Ubud is gentler and ideal for beginners and families. Telaga Waja in East Bali has longer, more adventurous rapids. Compare both in our Bali ATV vs Rafting guide.
